Abstract

For our latest Image Capture Assignment we were required to take abstract photos, by way of Macro photography. I really enjoy finding beauty in otherwise ugly things.

Steep Rock

This past weekend 7 of us, from school, headed out to Steep Rock, Manitoba for the day to take some photos. On the way there we stopped at a couple abandoned houses. They were pretty cool. One of the houses was in a cow paddock so I went and photographed the cows and calves. When we were leaving the farms Jonah found a snake so I pounced on it and we all took pictures. Once at Steep Rock, Kirsten and I stumbled upon a snake den and caught a bunch of snakes for everybody to photograph. It was pretty cool. We then spent the evening out on the rocks shooting all sorts of things. It was a fun, tiring day.

Kenora Area

So a couple weeks ago I had a bunch of fellow photographers come out to the cabin. A couple of us stayed out there for the weekend. The Sunday I went exploring in an area I don't know very well and found some amazing spots! It was a super fun weekend and can't wait to get back out there to go exploring some more. Tried doing some Macro work. Played around with lots of things that weekend.

What I've been up to lately

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted work. School has been pretty crazy lately and I've been going out of town every weekend to shoot. So here's a slide show of what I've been up to. I've been pretty Busy.

PBR!!!

So this past weekend I was privileged enough to get the opportunity to photograph the PBR (professional Bull Riding). It was awesome, got to be down right on the floor, in the dirt with the bulls. It was very exciting. Got some really fun shots. I had a tough time deciding weather I like black and white or colour versions of the images.

Spring Break

So we have been on spring break the past week and it barely felt like a break I've been so busy.
The first Sunday of the break I went out to an Alpaca farm with Jonah, Chris M. and Kirsten. It was pretty awesome. Tons of different animals to photograph. The couple that owned the farm were super nice too.

I then went out to Kenora with Laura and Chris M. Monday to Wednesday. It was awesome, we got so lucky and had amazing weather. I actually got a tan! It was lots of fun, we went to Rushing River Monday. And it was beautiful. We then headed to my cabin Tuesday. We were hiking around the island all day. Said hi to Mr. Bear. Wednesday, we went and hung out at Chris's cabin. It was super nice out that day so we sat out in the sun and enjoyed it. Laura actually fell asleep in the grass.

Manitoba Moose vs. Hamilton Bulldogs

So I got to shoot another Moose game on Wednesday. It was fun again! The game wasn't as good, so I didn't find there to be as much opportunity for good shots, but I still got a lot!

Movie Week

For movie week, I watched Oh Brother, Where art thou? One Hour Photo, and Pecker.
First off I watched Oh Brother, Where art thou? It is one of my favourite movies. I find it to be so witty and funny. I love the creativity in the film. It's so original in every way. I had never watched the way they made the film into the desaturated look before. I found that very cool. Scanning each frame and turn it digital and editing the colour. So cool! I love the colours in the film. So golden and dry, it works perfectly for the time the film is set in. My FAVOURITE photography moment in the movie, is when the three main guys are laying in the hay in the barn. The light is shining threw the boards and just going on the three men's faces. LOVE IT!

The second movie I watched was One Hour Photo. Super creepy movie. It was cool to see some of the things they use to develop rolls of film in a one hour photo place. The movie makes me wonder how many creepers actually do that with your photos. Freaky! I really liked the way they made the lighting so different for the different places. In the store, so bright and happy and open and then at the families place it's nice and warm colours, very natural. And then the creepers life outside of the store is very weird colours, everything is just a little off, there are greens where there shouldn't be. Not my favourite movie, but a good one.

The last movie I was saw Pecker! And it was hilarious. Definitely not for everybody, but totally my kind of humour! I loved all the hidden little innuendoes. My favourite was after Pecker went to New York and was hating how things were going, they showed a shot of his house and there was a sign right in front, looking like it was hung on the house almost, and it said Dead End Street. It was awesome! One thing that REALLY bugged me about this movie, was the Pecker was never taking vertical shots with his original camera and then in his show he had all these vertical shots. I mean he could have cropped them, but it really bugged me. I love how they referenced the Migrant Mother image, with the dad in the newspaper and the newspaper making up this big story about how he is suffering and has no money. That was very funny. Well done. I also liked the different perceptions everybody had of Pecker's work. The people from his home thought they were just images of them in their normal lives, but the people in New York thought it was a totally different world, and thought Pecker was actually making fun of the people. Which he wasn't at all. It really shows how people can see things totally differently.

Chip Drawing

Here's a drawing I just did for a Client. I thought it would be cool to document the process.
